CREATIVE SPACES for SHOWING WORK

FARRAH LYNCH

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to show my work at the Houston Young Professional's Realtor open house. Artists and non-profits were able to promote their causes in new loft spaces available for sale in the building. There was a mix of visitors, drinks, food, good vibes all around.

Art Insurance

So, you’ve connected with the inner artist inside and purchased/ invested in the dopest art piece you could find.

You have the right space for it.

You’ve found matching décor, I mean you’re doing your thing.

THAT’S WASSUP.  I CAN GET WITH THAT.

But

You’re not quite done.

Here’s one thing you didn’t do and possibly the most important thing you’ve missed.

Art insurance.

No, don’t run! It’s not boring, I promise, here’s why.

Art insurance is the extra step you want to take to get the most from your art investment.  What happens to the artwork in the unfortunate event of a fire? Or in the event a piece becomes lost or stolen or damaged piece?  Most importantly, it is my opinion that people don’t value artwork because they haven’t themselves attributed its worth through insurance.

Attaining art insurance is often the one detail most people neglect.

So, what is art insurance?

Art insurance is exactly what it says.  It insures that the piece you’ve paid your hard earned money for, maintains the art’s monetary value/existence.

Got it?

Now, let me tell you just HOW to insure your art piece, it’s fairly easy, ready?

If you are a renter, you can simply add the price value of your artwork to your renter’s insurance policy, specifically under a personal property coverage clause.

If you’re a home owner, guess what? Same deal.

Be sure that when you purchase original art, you get a certificate of authenticity, signed by the gallery or artist, establishing the price of the work purchased.

It’s good to keep a record of original art purchases for inventory’s sake anyway. I mean, you are building a grand collection right?

One day you may get requests to show your collection!

Get the most from your art investment by accounting for its value through art insurance.

WHAT IS YOUR VISION ART DEALER?

FARRAH LYNCH

What is your vision Dealer?

Okay, so you want to be an A.R.E.A. Art Dealer!

Yes, Good, Great, God loves you…

But,

What are you doing about it?

Front Street Much?

Yea, pretty much.

Earning income is not easy.

It takes hard work.  First mentally and then physically.

You see, Mentally, you have to get over the fear of feeling inadequate enough to ask for money, among other fears.. (*raises hand*)

Physically, you have to put your body into motion carrying out the actions determined to make money; which is hard too, especially when combined with the mental constraints.

You have to be willing to put yourself out there.

And in this case, you’re putting yourself out there for art.

A practice that has a long way to go in convincing people of its value.

Okay, now focus.

I don’t mean to scare you.

It can be done. You can have success with you art business( SEE HERE), but again I ask, what are you willing to do about it?

And Why?

What is your vision as an Art Dealer?   In what ways do the pieces you represent speak to others about your unique perspective of art?

I ask these questions because it’s important for you to think about these things, so you’re not lost.

Answering these questions for you are the first physical and mental steps needed to get started as a successful dealer.

Yes,

Once you answer these questions, you’ll not only clear your path, you’ll gain confidence to get started selling your art.

EXERCISE:

Write your vision for being a dealer.

Is it to be the go to person for dope visual art in your area?

What perspective about art are you trying to convey?

Why is this unique to you?

Comment within this post…if you do I’ll send you a customized

A REBEL EYE ART notepad to journal these thoughts and answers.

SHIFTING CONVERSATIONS

SHIFTING CONVERSATIONS

Okay, so we all know that we’re in an era where content is king.  And on television, “king” like content is TURNT UP TV.  You know, fights and butts and small hips and etc. (am I hating?) This is the content we have conversations about during the airings, the next day at work ,over social media, you know.  Now, I must admit, it is quite entertaining.  I myself am known to curl up on the couch with a warm blanket and drink and go ALL IN.   It’s fun!

I mean, who else is shocked by Tearri Mari's actions on LOVE AND HIP HOP – Hollywood? But I like her.  *shrugs* (IM A MICHIGAN NATIVE SO....)

And  Ms. Tameka Raymond? Yea, she’s a lot.

Now, if you’re not ready to give all this up just yet, which I don’t recommend( we have to let loose sometime) then at least add a spoonful of new conversation to your life to balance out the tv treachery.

How?

Discuss Art.

Words are powerful and what good is it to discuss meaningless things most of the time, if they don’t edify or build?

Changing your conversation can open up a wealth of new opportunity and good.

As a dealer, this is essentially what you’re doing.  You’re giving people the opportunity to express themselves and experience art in a way that contributes to good discussions.

SHIFT YOUR CONVERSATIONS AND THE CONVERSATIONS OF OTHERS.

YOUR DEALER ACTION

While talking to your girlfriends, out of the blue, ask them who their favorite artist is.

They may look at you like you’re crazy, but who cares.

They’re your girls, they aint going nowhere.

HOST HUNT

FARRAH LYNCH

THE HUNT FOR A HOST

As a dealer, you’ll need space for an art party.  So, how do you go about this?

Find a host.

The perfect host is a good friend or acquaintance.  Someone with ample space to accommodate a small to mid-size group of people, an art game or two, wine drinking/glasses and art creation and obviously they must love art.

I myself am hosting three parties over the next month in the homes of my elected hosts.  For this, hosts will receive 30% off of any art they choose, as well as the opportunity to gain more discounts on A.R.E.A. ART based on the number of members they generate.  By this I simply mean collecting emails.

Ask a few of your girlfriends if they’d be willing to host an art party as a favor.  Remember, the purpose of A.R.E.A. DIRECT is to balance the conversations we’re having to conversations of substance.

Take a break from meaningless chatter, I mean, I do love it too, but to be balanced is key.

YOUR DEALER ACTION

Ask two friends if they’d be willing to host an art party for you for the upcoming holidays.  Comment with your feedback BELOW and receive two bottles of chardonnay to make for that perfect evening.
